Mascot Design for Palembang City

This is an assignment for Character Design class where we are asked to create a mascot for certain cities in Indonesia. The point of this task is to learn the design process of creating a mascot that represent the subject very well, yet still likeable and can be used in various media such as animation, advertisement, or just to make the interaction between subject and audience more human.

This is PIDJA, a cute mascot that lives around Ampera Bridge, in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. They are a mix between a Pempek Telur (egg fish cake) and an actual fish that represent Palembang City, Belida.

PIDJA is very talk active, loud and upbeat. She loves to talk with people who is strolling around their home and cheer them up.

It's written in Bahasa since this is for an assignment, but basically i designed them with Lotus flower elements because one of the most defining traits from Palembang city is their history with Srivijaya Kingdom, which used a Lotus (Padma) as its symbol.
